The BIG City Getaway

The last couple of years, my girlfriends from college have met for a girl's getaway and Christmas shopping.  We made the guys figure out a way to also stay together with the kids so we could all meet up for dinner.  It worked both years, but was slightly chaotic.  During Homecoming weekend, we talked about some ideas then decided to scratch the whole thing for an adults only weekend in Chicago.  The big city at the beginning of the Christmas season...yes please!  Friday night we stayed with the Gorsch's and Windham's outside of the city.  We got up early on Saturday to head downtown.  We did a little window shopping on Michigan Ave. then checked into the Hyatt Regency right downtown.  We knew where we were going to eat lunch so we took a cab to this great Mediterranean restaurant called Reza's.  They had a buffet with several meats, rices, vegetables and dipping saucs.  It was really yummy!  Here our some of my favorite girls right after lunch.
We then took off for State St. for some more shopping.  After a bit, the guys wanted to head back to the hotel to rest (aka watch football) before our late dinner reservations.  That was fine with us girls because we were ready to keep going on the shopping.  One thing we wanted to do for sure was see the big Christmas tree at Macy's (although it will always seem like Marshall Fields to me).  Isn't it beautiful!

We decided we had enough and started making our way back to our hotel which was about a five minute walk or so.  As we walked, we stopped at a few more stores and enjoyed all the beautiful decorations.  Next thing we know, it was seeming a little darker and we stopped to try and get our bearings.  We were checking out the maps on our iPhone and still thought we were doing good.  That is until we looked up and saw the Sear's Tower, not the Hancock building, and a sign for Union Station.  Oops!  We were on the complete opposite end of Michigan Ave.  We decided at that point to get a cab and we are so glad we did!  We were at least three miles from our hotel!  Always an adventure!

We got back to the hotel, rested and then got ready for dinner.  We were all dressed a little nicer and figured a cab would be the best way to go.  As we were waiting, a driver approached us with his limo!  He said it would be $5 a person.  Tim and Sarah respectfully declined to help save money while Lindsey's face was saying "Heck yeah!"  What the heck!  It is our night out!  And into the cab we went.  So much fun!  We had 9:30 reservations for Table 52 which is this amazingly cute carriage house off one of the main roads and is operated by Oprah's former chef.  The ambiance was so quiet and cozy and the food was amazing!  We even sat at this great round table which was perfect for our group.  Here is Tim and I on our night out.
Before we left, we got a group shot.  I love these people so much!
The next morning, the Gorsch's and Knopp's headed to breakfast while the Windham's and us headed back home.  It was such a great weekend!  We are so blessed with some amazing life-long friends.  Thank you for a fabulous Christmas season kick-off and a weekend to remember!
